Hey fiction writers! Let’s play a fun game!
To help boost each other’s visibility on Substack and show off our storytelling chops
Here’s how it works:
Drop the first paragraph of your novel, short story, novella, or fairy tale in the comments — and don’t forget to include a link to the full piece.
Check out the person who commented before you and leave them some feedback by following their link.
Your feedback can be just on the first paragraph (does it grab you? make you want more?), or on the full work — your call.
The first commenter should leave feedback on this chapter from my book.
You can review more than one work, but make sure you leave feedback for the person who commented right before you.
💫 Bonus Fun!
📣 Hook of the Week: I’ll pick one especially strong paragraph to feature in my next post — a little spotlight moment for the best attention-grabber.
❤️ Reader’s Choice: React with a ❤️ to any paragraph you love. The one with the most hearts also gets a shoutout!
Let’s help each other grow and discover some amazing stories along the way!
Here’s the first paragraph of my novella, Frost 2 Bloom:
Jake slouched in the stiff hospital chair, one hand resting on his sister Lily’s bed rail, the other loosely holding a dog-eared copy of The Great Gatsby. The rhythmic beep of monitors filled the sterile room, blending with the faint antiseptic smell of alcohol wipes and clean linens—a sensory backdrop that had become as familiar as his own heartbeat over the past year.

I liked what I read of "The Orphaned Earth: The Flight Engineer." The way the world is at this moment is very believable, considering how easy it is to forget these days. The sudden apperance of a strange intelligent man in this town and the knowledge that he has and shares would natualy draw any curious kid close to learn something interesting.
